{"id":9906,"date":"2019-07-04T07:28:07","date_gmt":"2019-07-04T07:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/evolphin.com\/help\/?p=9906"},"modified":"2020-05-15T04:48:43","modified_gmt":"2020-05-15T08:48:43","slug":"using-unc-paths-on-windows-server","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/evolphin.com\/help\/administration-server\/os-issues\/using-unc-paths-on-windows-server\/","title":{"rendered":"Using UNC paths on Windows Server"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sometimes mounting shared network folders on a Windows machine becomes a very complex task as it depends on the flavor of Windows operating system in use and also the configurations that have been set up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"note\">Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/evolphin.com\/help\/faq-answers\/os-issues\/mounting-persistent-network-share-as-a-drive-letter-on-a-windows-server\/\">this<\/a> post to mount a shared network folder as a new drive letter on a Windows system.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A better alternative to using drive letters for shared network folders is to use their UNC paths. This also saves the hassle of mounting them. UNC paths can be constructed by using the DNS name or IP address of the network server machine followed by the folder path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"example\">\n<p>e.g&nbsp; &nbsp;\/\/nas\/zoom\/psan&nbsp; or&nbsp; \/\/192.168.0.32\/zoom\/psan<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recommended settings to make the UNC paths work on all Windows machines:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Access the Zoom service which is going to use this path as a&nbsp;local user, say Zoom Preview Service on a Transcoder machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span class=\"command\">Open<\/span> <span class=\"\" style=\"background: #e3e3e3;\">Run<\/span> and type <span class=\"keyword\">services.msc<\/span>. <strong>Click<\/strong> <span class=\"\" style=\"background: #e8c8c8; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\">OK<\/span>.<\/li><li><span class=\"command\">Right-Click<\/span> on <span class=\"keyword\">Zoom Preview Service<\/span> and <strong>select<\/strong> <span class=\"\" style=\"background: #e3e3e3;\">Properties<\/span>.<\/li><li><span class=\"command\">Click<\/span> on the <span class=\"\" style=\"background: #e3e3e3;\">Log On<\/span> tab.<\/li><li><span class=\"command\">Change<\/span> the <span class=\"\" style=\"background: #e3e3e3;\">Log on as<\/span> to <span class=\"keyword\">This Account<\/span> and then <strong>specify<\/strong> the local admin username and password.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"835\" height=\"611\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9912 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/evolphin.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screenshot-2019-01-05-at-5.16.28-PM-1-1024x749.png\" alt=\"\"><\/li><li><span class=\"command\">Restart<\/span> the service. <strong>Close<\/strong> <span class=\"\" style=\"background: #e3e3e3;\">Services<\/span> window.<\/li><li><strong>Open<\/strong> <span class=\"\" style=\"background: #e3e3e3;\">Windows Explorer<\/span>.<\/li><li><strong>Type<\/strong> the <span class=\"keyword\">UNC path<\/span> and press <span class=\"keyboard\">Enter<\/span>.<\/li><li><strong>Specify<\/strong> the same admin credentials as used above. <figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"835\" height=\"615\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9914 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/evolphin.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screenshot-2019-01-05-at-5.54.40-PM-1024x754.png\" alt=\"\"><\/figure><\/li><li><strong>Select<\/strong> <span class=\"\" style=\"background: #e3e3e3;\">Remember my credentials<\/span> and <strong>click<\/strong> <span class=\"\" style=\"background: #e8c8c8; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\">OK<\/span>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The UNC path is ready to be used now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes mounting shared network folders on a Windows machine becomes a very complex task as it depends on the flavor of Windows operating system in use and also the configurations that have been set up.
