This guide helps you get started with using Zoom with Asset Browser and the desktop clients. As pre-requisites to this guide, we assume that you have completed the Zoom Deployment Guide<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Launching Asset Browser<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Asset Browser<\/span> is a very powerful desktop and web application that allows users to browse and search assets that are stored inside of Zoom. Asset Browser is the center of your Zoom experience as it allows you to search, browse, view, checkout, check-in assets from your desktop computer or in your web browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To get started, let’s get you logged into Asset Browser. Launching Asset Browser<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you are all set with logging into the Asset Browser, you are ready to start ingesting\/importing\/editing files. In the next section, we will learn how to Ingest Files into Zoom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

See all your recently modified or previewed files in the center of the Homepage. Double click on any file in this view to jump straight to to a tab with more details about the file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activity feed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Recently worked on files in your brand or project vault will show up in the activity feed on the right. Each file listed will have a thumb and also a user profile icon for the user who worked with the file (user profile icons are configured by the adminitrator).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Custom Widget Panels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Two panels may be configured for the lower part of the Homepage. Using the Settings you can control which two panels show up by default in your home page view. In the example above, Tasks and Favorites show up in this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Configure this setting by clicking Settings from the upper right corner of the Homepage. Exclude one of the three panels, Tasks, Inactive Files, and Favorite Files, from the Home page. Click Save.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alternatively, access the Settings from the user icon popup menu from anywhere in the Asset Browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ingest Assets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are a variety of different ways you can import assets into Zoom. To get you started, follow the instructions in the link below to import links.

In the Asset Browser<\/span>, files can be imported as individual files and as folders. The following steps show how to import files into the Asset Browser<\/span> using the defproj<\/span> project that is created by default in Zoom. Thumbnails for supported file types are generated during the import process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The examples below are based on a sample directory that is structured like the following and importing into the defproj<\/span> project, which is created by default after first installing Zoom:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. In the top-left corner of the Asset Browser<\/span> interface, click<\/span> on the \"Description: Browse<\/span> button.<\/li>
  2. In the Path Navigator<\/span>, click<\/span> on defproj<\/span>.<\/li>
  3. In Finder<\/span> or Windows Explorer<\/span>, locate the folder that contains the files you would like to import into Zoom.<\/li>
  4. Select<\/span> the desired files in Windows Explorer<\/span> or Finder<\/span>.<\/li>
  5. Drag-and-drop<\/span> them into either the defproj<\/span> folder in the Path Navigator<\/span> or in the center view (Grid\/List\/Portfolio) of the Asset Browser<\/span>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Your files are now imported into the defproj<\/span> project. If you also imported folders into this project, you will see them in the Path Navigator<\/span> and in the browse view. You can navigate into the folder by double-clicking the folder or selecting it in the Path Navigator<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If the optional VideoFX module<\/a> is implemented, the files will be routed to either an Ingest workflow with a transcoding engine or as direct assets into the Zoom database. For more details on storage management with Zoom please see this<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Asset Basics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Once you have successfully imported your assets into Zoom, you are going to need to learn some of the basics of how to work with assets in Zoom. Below are some of the core functions you need to learn to get started with Asset Browser:<\/p>\n\n\n

    Browse Mode – Asset Browser<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n

    Browse Mode<\/span>\u00a0in Asset Browser allows users to navigate and browse Zoom in hierarchal structure. Browsing is much similar to navigating files and folders on your own computer in your file system.<\/p>\n

    These instructions assume that you already have\u00a0Asset Browser<\/span>\u00a0open and step you through how to navigate your files.<\/p>\n

    1. Click<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0\"Description:\u00a0button<\/span> in the top-left corner.<\/li>\n
    2. In the\u00a0Path Navigator<\/span>,\u00a0click<\/span>\u00a0the arrow next to\u00a0defproj<\/span>\u00a0to expand the folder.<\/li>\n
    3. In the\u00a0Path Navigator<\/span>,<\/em>\u00a0click<\/span>\u00a0the sub-folder of\u00a0defproj<\/span>.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      You can use the\u00a0Path Navigator<\/span>\u00a0to navigate to different folders inside of Zoom. The contents will display in the center of your screen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

      Asset Previews – Asset Browser<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n

      Zoom can generate high-resolution previews a variety of different file-types, even if you do not have that application installed on your computer. These previews include images, videos, PDFs, InDesign files, etc. For a full list of supported files for preview, see\u00a0Supported File Formats, Codecs & Preview File Types<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>.<\/p>\n

      The following instructions describe how to generate a preview of an asset in the Asset Browser.<\/p>\n

      Via Keyboard<\/h5>\n

      1. Select<\/span> an item in Asset Browser<\/span>.<\/li>\n
      2. Hit<\/span> the spacebar<\/span> on your keyboard.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        Via Mouse<\/h5>\n

        1. Select<\/span> an item in Asset Browser<\/span>.<\/li>\n
        2. Double-click<\/span><\/span> asset.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

          Assets in Zoom can be moved from one location to another via drag-and-drop. The following instructions show how to move an asset from one directory in Asset Browser to another.<\/p>\n

          1. Click<\/span> the \"Description:\u00a0Browse button in the top-left corner.<\/li>\n
          2. Navigate to defproj<\/span> using the Path Navigator<\/span>.
            \n\"\"<\/li>\n
          3. Expand<\/span> defproj<\/span> in the Path Navigator<\/span> using the \"Description:\u00a0expand arrow<\/span> button.<\/li>\n
          4. Select<\/span> a file inside of defproj<\/span>.\n
            \n

          5. Drag-and-drop<\/span> the file to the subfolder in the Path Navigator<\/span>. A square will appear over the folder, indicating that the file will be moved into that folder.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

            Assets can be renamed easily with the Asset Browser interface. The instructions below describe the different methods you can rename an asset in Asset Browser.<\/p>\n

            1. Select<\/span> an item in Asset Browser<\/span>.<\/li>\n
            2. Click<\/span> once on the filename.

            3. Hit<\/span> Enter<\/span> on your keyboard.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
              Using Contextual-Menu<\/h5>\n

              1. Select<\/span> an item in Asset Browser<\/span>.

              2. Enter<\/span> your new filename<\/span>.

              3. Click<\/span> OK<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

                Assets can be deleted with ease within the Asset Browser. It is important to note, however, that no assets or revisions are every truly deleted and assets can always be restored.
                \nWhenever a person deletes an asset in Zoom, Zoom simply flags that asset as Deleted. The assets remain in the Zoom database and can be resurrected at any time.
                \nIn order to delete an asset, you must have appropriate permissions to do so.
                \nThe following instructions describe how to delete assets in Asset Browser:<\/p>\n

                  Within Zoom, creating copies of files is easy using Smart Copy<\/span>. Unlike conventional copying of files which takes up additional data, creating a Smart Copy<\/span> allows a file to be copied and edited without having to duplicate data on the server. You can create smart copies of a file or an entire folder.<\/p>\n

                  Using Contextual Menu<\/h5>\n

                  1. Select<\/span> an item in Asset Browser<\/span>.<\/li>\n
                  2. Right-click<\/span> on the asset and Select<\/span> Smart Copy<\/span>.<\/li>\n
                  3. Type in<\/span> the path of the location you would like the Smart Copy<\/span> to be created in.<\/li>\n
                  4. Click<\/span> OK<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
